In peacekeeping operations of the present, private military companies occupy an equal position with regular armies. Moreover such military corporations will play an increasingly important role in armed local conflicts and wars in the future.

Far from meaning a possible weakening of the national state power and its monopoly on violence, PMCs will actually serve as alternative forms of power application abroad through irregular means, without violating UEE law, causing troubles in the domestic or public policy, or too many international repercussions.

PMCs wrap themselves in a governments' "cloak of legitimacy" allowing military operations to take place.  Some with the blessing of the government, some without.
